The Milwaukee Brewers moved within one win of their first World Series since 1982, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in NLCS Game 3 on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium and taking a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series.

First pitch was at 8:09 p.m. ET. Los Angeles briefly led 2-1 in the sixth on Will Smith’s two-run double, then Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell went back-to-back off Blake Snell in the seventh. Milwaukee added runs in the eighth and ninth to finish it around 11:11 p.m. ET, according to the MLB.com game story and the official box score.

What happened

Jackson Chourio set the tone immediately, homering on the first pitch of the game off Snell for a 1-0 Brewers lead. MLB.com noted he was the sixth hitter since 1988 to open a postseason game with a home run on the first pitch.

Robert Gasser kept the Dodgers off the board through five innings, allowing three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. The lead held until the sixth, when Abner Uribe walked Teoscar Hernández, Kyle Tucker and Shohei Ohtani in succession. Smith then doubled to center, scoring Hernández and Tucker for a 2-1 Dodgers lead. Uribe faced four batters, recorded one out and was charged with two earned runs in a blown save.

That completed Milwaukee’s road trip into a hostile October crowd of 50,708 after the Brewers had already taken the first two games at home, including a 2-1 win in NLCS Game 1.

Latest development

The seventh inning flipped the game. Andrew Vaughn walked, and Bauers followed with a two-run home run to right that scored Christian Yelich, putting Milwaukee ahead 3-2. Mitchell then hit a solo home run to right-center for a 4-2 lead. MLB.com reported Bauers’ at-bat lasted 11 pitches.

In the eighth, Brice Turang scored on a Justin Wrobleski wild pitch to make it 5-2. Joey Ortiz drove in Cooper Pratt with an RBI single in the ninth for the final 6-2 margin. Pratt finished 3-for-4.

DL Hall earned the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Trevor Megill finished with 1 1/3 perfect innings and two strikeouts for his fourth save of the postseason. Snell took the loss after six innings, four hits, four earned runs, two walks and nine strikeouts on 101 pitches. The game lasted 3 hours, 2 minutes.

Why it matters

Milwaukee is one win from the World Series for the first time since 1982. The Brewers won Game 1 by 2-1 and Game 2 by 7-4 in Milwaukee before taking the first road game of this NLCS, building a 3-0 series lead with consecutive scores of 2-1, 7-4 and 6-2. MLB.com called Wednesday Milwaukee’s fifth comeback win of the postseason.

The Dodgers are bidding for a third straight World Series title after sweeping Milwaukee in the 2025 NLCS. Falling behind 3-0 leaves a historically narrow path: of 42 teams that have trailed 3-0 in a best-of-seven series, only the 2004 Boston Red Sox came back to win, according to MLB.com.

The American League bracket is also deep into its LCS. See how the Rays evened the ALCS with the Guardians in Game 2 after Cleveland’s Game 1 win.

What happens next

NLCS Game 4 is Thursday at 8 p.m. ET at Dodger Stadium, with national coverage on FS1, FOX Deportes and FOX One. Tyler Glasnow is Los Angeles’ probable starter. Milwaukee’s Game 4 starter was listed as TBD on MLB’s schedule as of Thursday morning.

A Brewers win would clinch the National League pennant and send Milwaukee to the World Series. A Dodgers win would force Game 5 and keep the two-time defending champions alive in the series.
