KTHT hit the waves on Jan 27, 1986 and was originally owned by 4 Star Broadcasting. The independent station served as a general entertainment service with classic movies, HSN programs, kids programming and off-network drama series, content not aired by KTRK linked with ABC and other programs not cleared by NBC linked KPRC and KHOU affiliated with CBS. Silver King Broadcasting acquired the channel in 1987 and changed its calls to KHSH in Nov 1987. It then picked HSN programming also owned by Silver King.

Plans were laid out to transform the channel into a general entertainment independent Channel 67 by 2001 by adopting City Vision format introduced by USA Broadcasting which included a combination of first-run and off-network syndicated content and locally produced programs. However, the plan fell through when USA Broadcasting put its television assets on market for sale. KHSH then became a charter affiliate of Univision owned upstart network Telefutura and changed its calls to KFTH-TV on Jan 14, 2002.

It would complete digital transition on June 12, 2009 but remained on its pre-transition UHF Ch 36 position. Luis Gómez, Lizzet Lopez, Arnaldo Rojas, Maria Corrales, Raúl Peimbert, Mariana Pineda and Fernando Pizarro are the notable personalities and make the news team of KFTH-DT. Entertainment shows, news, weather and sports programming, videos, features and more is available online on the official website: https://www.univision.com/.
