On Dec 21, 1996 the channel went on air as KINZ-TV to carry the infomercials and religious programs sponsored by The Worship Network for the overnight hours. The originally planned calls for KPXD were: KAQV but were changed after the approval of construction permit. Under the ownership of Paxson Communications which bought it in early 1998, it adopted the news callsign: KPXD on Jan 13, 1998. It then became a charter affiliate of Pax TV, the forerunner of Ion Television held by Paxson Communications, (now Ion Television) on Aug 31, 1998.

It signed a JSA with KXAS-TV after NBC took over the partial ownership of the channel. Pax decided to cut is programming in 2003 due to financial troubles and filled the afternoon schedule with infomercials. Its fourth sub-channel Ion Life was launched and Worship Network was moved to third digital subchannel of KPXD. Since 2006 Ion Media Networks, Inc is the owner of the television and maintains itself as an independent network.  On June 12, 2009, the channel completed digital transition.
