History

WANE first hit the waves on Sep 26, 1954 as WINT and aired its digital signal from a transmitter in Auburn. The old studios of the channel were located in Waterloo. Tri-State Television was the original owner of the channel that took advantage of peculiarities in FCC rules to divert the signal to Fort Wayne. Although the area could house three full network affiliate, Federal Communications Commission had originally sanctioned only channel, WKJG on UHF Ch 33 in the area.

WINT was bought by Indiana Broadcasting Company in 1956. Under the new ownership the calls were changed to WANE-TV to reflect the city name, Fort Wayne. The analog transmitter worked form Auburn location until 1957. Indiana Broadcasting soon became Corinthian Broadcasting Company in 1957. It has always maintained its positon as a CBS affiliate but also had secondary affiliations with ABC until losing to WTPA which was introduced to market in Sep 1957. It also had a small affiliation stint with NTA Film Network.

Local programs broadcasted by the channel included talk and variety programs most notably The Ann Colone Show. WANE radio was put on market in 1966. Corinthian was acquired by Dun & Bradstreet in 1970 which then released their asset to Belo Corporation in 1983.
