History

Channel 34 went on air as WTKK: Witnessing The King of Kings, on March 26, 1978, a non-affiliated religious station under the original ownership of National Broadcasting. By 1982 the lineup was filled with classic movies and some sitcoms but the programming was rolled back in favor of religious content in 1986. WTLL was the sibling of WTKK from 1984 to 1986. ValueVision acquired the station in 1994 and registered it under the news calls: WVVI on June 6, 1994. Paxson Communications acquired the Channel 66 in 1997 and under its new ownership, a home shopping network, it served as a fulltime infomercial service. On Jan 13, 1998, it was renamed as WPXW and maintained its infomercial status until the launch of Pax network on Aug 31, 1998. Under Pax it acquired the rights to broadcast 2005 Season of Baltimore Orioles games sponsored by MASN for the Washington area. Pax 66 was the previously employed branding replaced with WPXW Channel 34 after Pax became ION.
